One of the major concerns of an individual should be his health, but unfortunately health is one of the things that is given less attention and was also taken for granted.

Health is wealth, a good health gives an individual a lot of benefits, a person could participate actively in the society and can perform responsibilities effectively. Having a good health depends on the lifestyle a person has, having a good health is having a healthy lifestyle.

Healthy Lifestyle has many definitions, but what really healthy lifestyles is? This kind of lifestyle has many factors and these factors should be achieved to consider a certain lifestyle healthy.

Healthy Diet is one the factors that should be considered. Healthy Diet is eating right kind of food, having a balanced diet and the eating on the right time.

The right kind of food for a person depends on the metabolism and digestion of the body, the right kind of food to eat is nutritious foods. This decides what could food should be eaten more and what should be eaten less. For example, constipated people should more vegetables, food that has high fiber and avoid fatty foods.

A balanced diet depends on the food pyramid; it is the right amount of intake of each food category. According to the food pyramid (FDA, 2004), to have a balanced diet a person should take a little amount of fats, sweets and oil, moderate amount of dairy and protein, more on fruits and vegetables, and take a lots of  carbohydrates.

This is the required amount for each group everyday; a person should take at least 8-12 glasses of water or any beverage a day. It may also vary according to the body type of a person; an underweight person should take more but not beyond the suggested amount and an overweight person should take less. But the ratio among the food group would still be the same.

Eating at the right time is also important; basically it is breakfast, lunch and dinner. A person should not skip any of these meals because skipping any of these could damage the body’s digestive system. Changing the time of eating everyday may confuse a person’s digestive system and may result difficulty in digestion.

Along with healthy diet, an individual should also be physically active, having a regular exercise and daily physical activities. The body needed only a certain amount of exercise, a thirty minute cardiovascular exercise is the common requirement for a person. The kinds of these exercises are jogging and cycling, the most popular cardiovascular exercise.

But even simple physical activity would help like walking, instead of taking the elevator use the stairs; this would help a lot in maintaining or losing weight. There are many benefits in having a regular exercise, of course one of this is a great figure, others are regulation of blood flow in the body and also results in having a healthy heart and lungs (FDA, 2004). It even helps in reducing toxins in the body through sweating.

Beside from the two factors mentioned above, there are also other things that affect the health that only the person involve can control. These are actually the “lifestyle”, job and environment of an individual. Vices have become a part of other’s lifestyle, so as sleeping late or lack of sleep (may be cause of job shifting). But avoiding vices like smoking may result to a healthy lifestyle (Waehner, 2005).

Sometimes people tend to take for granted sleep, but this should be given enough attention because it recharges the body and inadequate sleep can result to lower or higher blood pressure. In work, people sometimes get stressful and also may lack on sleep as mentioned. Stress and other negative thoughts can make the body unhealthy (DFA, 2004). Relaxing a bit, sleeping regularly, check up with a doctor, living in a quiet, unpolluted environment, and having a good relationship with others would not hurt but can lead to a healthy lifestyle.

Living a healthy lifestyle is a matter of choice; an individual has a full control over the way he wants to live his life. But choosing a healthy lifestyle has many benefits aside from other physical benefits, having a longer life is the most rewarding among it.

Healthy lifestyle could also help performing a person’s role and task effectively. Discipline and a little effort is what it takes to have a healthy living. Healthy lifestyle is having a healthy diet, regular exercise, quitting vices and maintaining a good environment and relationship with others. Having a healthy lifestyle is a wise decision, it means having longer and meaningful life.
