Exercise strengthens the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, promotes healthy and strong bones and muscles and most importantly, promotes mental health.  It builds self esteem and confidence just like those involved in sports and it is a great aid for stress relief, anger and insomnia.

A healthy balanced diet complete with the essential nutrients the body needs to function at its optimal level, together with appropriate physical fitness regimen are the key factors to maintaining good health and a healthy lifestyle. Good nutrition and physical activity cannot efficiently work independently but only in combination to promote good health

My lifestyle in particular can be considered generally sedentary as my free times are normally spent sleeping, if not reading or tinkering with my laptop. In so far as my consciousness has been opened to the ill effects of improper nutrition and lack of exercise, I have resolved to do something about my sedentary lifestyle and to undertake some changes in my eating habits, especially the kind of food I eat.

To get the most nutrition, I now eat vegetables steamed.  I also learned that pasta or baked goods should be made from whole grains. When shopping, I choose the lean meats and always have fish. For beverage, I have already started to limit myself to non-calorie containing beverages and green tea. I have this aversion with water but I am now trying to increase my intake of water as I learned how essential it is in the care of our bodies.

In terms of my after-school activities, I plan to enroll in a physical fitness or exercise program. Fitness gives our body the conditioning it needs and works hand in hand with a healthy diet. It also helps to decrease as well as serves as a means of prevention of many health concerns. Indeed, lack of physical activity makes us feel lethargic and at times may even cause depression. Exercise strengthens the cardiovascular and respiratory systems, promotes healthy and strong bones and muscles and most importantly, promotes mental health.

Reviewing my present schedule, I found out that I can still include a one-hour workout at the gym after class.  I can even probably go back into my passion for swimming on weekends when I have more free time. I read in another material that fitness in women is important in slowing the aging process, another motivating factor that tells me that there should be no delaying in my plans to pursue my planned fitness program.
