As mentioned by Fay Valentine and Lesley Lowes (2007), playing is a way of coping for it distracts little children of what they feel. In many ways, playing helps children to be submerged in activities they enjoy doing. Nonetheless, the child is relieved from all the pain or sadness due to several hours of enjoying him of her self with toys or activities.

Due to a child’s lesser ability to understand his or her illness, play is a method which will enable them to express their emotions regarding the situation or the pain presently felt. Through play, a child could spend more time with his or her family rather than simply be in an environment filled with various sicknesses and stressors.

The act of playing is a widely used method to normalize the life of an ill child. Although the type of playing might be limited, it is still a method where in a child would be able to feel a normalcy of life. He or she is able to express his or her emotions and relate more to the family members. Through this, a child would have a positive environment as well as lifestyle which will help him or her cope up with the situation at hand.
