A Health educator is someone who educates the public about certain diseases or medical situations and his/her main aim is to make people aware of the causes of the health problems, how they happens, methods of preventing them and how one can dealt with it if diagnosed and if preventable- how it can be avoided. In this case, I will be bringing to focus the concerns and health needs associated with Breast Cancer in the community According to (CDC Education Working group 103) a program constitutes of the needs, expectations, activities, resources, stage of Development, context and the logistic model.
Most of these I will incorporate in the Breast Cancer Program. My role as a Health educator coordinator dealing with Breast Cancer My role will be to perform a thorough Health Training needs assessment by instilling leadership qualities, thoroughly understand issues related to breast cancer and formulating a plan of activities to be undertaken and what needs to be done first is organize the group I will be dealing with so that everyone is familiar with each other.
People need to know from doctors or nurses who deal with Breast Cancer issues hence, I will organize a schedule for some of them to speak to the people and wiling patients who had and survived the stages of chemo therapy and the healing process in general. How I will serve as the resource person for Breast Cancer awareness To be an effective and influential Health Educator, I need to have proper coordination mechanisms in place and this will be achieved through planning.
In other words, I need to be organized, prepared and equipped. Just in the book (Donegan, William, Sprat 136) it talks of motivating women to perform self-examinations and participate in screening programs so it will be my duty to make sure that these practices are followed and that they influence others by telling them what they have learnt. I will also need to address proper diets and regular exercise that strengthens our immune system.
Since the program works in phases which include planning , implementation and evaluation; at the end of the Training, it will be wise to give those who have undergone the training questionnaires to fill; this will act ‘gauging mechanism’ or a basis for evaluating if the program and seeing if what is being implemented it will bear positive fruits.
